Catherine is now in charge of all aesthetic decisions. After patiently enduring my moaning and groaning over the colour choice for the kitchen while at the paint counter, but a surprisingly enjoyable day laying it out on the walls, I concede that my own personal aesthetician really knew her stuff when she picked the kitchen colours.

The previous ahem-- "colour", could charitably be called "Old Dingy Underwear White"

Not so with the hot new <del>Asparagus Green</del> Iguana Green. I'll not have an "Asparagus" kitchen in my home, and I fully expect Behr Paints to make the necessary changes to their labels. Even without the casing, backsplash or floors you can see how this kitchen just plain rocks.

Strange that just painting seems to be such a drastic a large step forward, but it did impart a sense of progress that so few other steps in this process have to date.

Next up, trolling Craig's List for a decent table saw . . .

[Full Album]

Pour me a Rusty Sludge with a twist of Blech!

Mmm-mm!

And so we have our plumbing upgrade. This all started mind you with me wanting an ice-maker. While I was procrastinating about that our little problem with the hot water coming and going in the middle of showers got even worse. So when I finally got off my duff and got a plumber that I liked out to look at our pipes the diagnosis wasn't great.

Our galvanised pipes were not only 50-60 years old, all but ensuring that they were more than 50% blocked with rust, crud and delaminating pipe inards, but they were undersized to start with. 3/4" pipe from the meter which should be at least a full 1", and 1/2" pipe running to all fixtures which should all have been at least 3/4".

The only good news in all of this is that with the economy being the way it is, finding a plumber willing to work for reasonable rates is easier than its been in 10 years.

So we're all piped up with 1" and 3/4" pex. We're still cleaning bits of rust out of the valves of the faucets but the colour and taste of the water is markedly better already. And now my icemaker is hooked up! Whooooo!

Its the little things more and more.
